The Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations (SCVO) is the national body representing the voluntary sector.
There are 45,000 voluntary organisations in Scotland involving around 130,000 paid staff and approximately 1.3 million volunteers. The sector manages an income of £4.1 billion.
We seek to advance the values and shared interests of the voluntary sector.
Our strategic objectives are:
- Build voluntary sector capacity and strengthen governance
- Increase the effectiveness of the voluntary sector’s infrastructure
- Promote citizen action and civic engagement
- Improve the voluntary sector’s contribution to better Scottish public services
- Promote civil society interaction locally, nationally and globally
In addition 3 underlying strategic themes to influence our approach to all our work:
- Promote equality
- Be aware of the distinctive needs of rural communities
- Take a sustainable development approach
Our strategic plan for 2007-10 identifies 9 activity areas to work towards these objectives.
SCVO will be consulting on our new strategic plan in May.
Our programme for the next year is laid out in our Operational Plan 2010-2011.
