Equal Opportunities Committee: Budget Strategy Phase: Public Services and Equality
The Scottish Parliament’s Equal Opportunities Committee is undertaking scrutiny work for the budget strategy phase with a view to informing the Finance Committee’s consideration of the 2011-12 budget. The theme of the inquiry is:
How do we ensure that the provision of public services aimed at equality groups is adequately maintained during a period of tightening public expenditure?

SCVO Response to Scottish Government Specific Duties Consultation
SCVO responds to the Scottish Government consultation on the specific duties that will underpin the General Equality Duty in s.148 of the Equality Bill. These specific duties are meant to assist public authorities in Scotland to fulfill their duties under the Equality act to promote equality across all the protected characteristics, to eliminate institutional discrimination and to foster good relations.

EHRC Announces £10 million funding programme: 8 May 2009
Commission announces £10 million funding programme for voluntary and community sector: The Strategic Funding Programme, will provide three-year project-based funding of up to £450,000 for community and voluntary sector organisations. The deadline for applications is 12 June 2009.

UK Equality Office announces new Single Equality Bill - 27.04.09
The UK government's equality office and Minister Harriet Harman have published the long awaited equality bill. It pulls together and simplifies the various pieces of equality legislation (9 different Acts and hundreds of regulations) into one Act. It also aims to strengthen provisions in particular areas of concern, like equal pay.

SCVO Response to SHRC Strategic Plan Consultation - 31 March 2009
SCVO, in collaboration with several national equalities organisations, submits a response to the Scottish Human Rights Commission's draft strategic plan. The response calls for the Commission to work closely with the voluntary sector and to develop its role, not just as defender of rights but as a leader in the development of human rights principles in Scotland, including exploring a rights based approach to community empowerment and promoting social and economic rights.

SCVO Response to EHRC Strategic Plan Consultation 2009-12 - March 2009
SCVO, in consultation with partner national equality groups, has submitted its response to the Equality and Human Rights Commission's consultation on its strategic plan for 2009-12. We hope that the Commission will be an aspirational leader and champion of equality and human rights, both in preserving, developing and expanding rights; that their work will bring real, lasting transformation in culture and institutions; and they will recognise the roll of the voluntary sector in achieving this.
