Investment in Growth / Futurebuilders
In response to the 2003 Review of the Social Economy the Scottish Executive launched Futurebuilders, a major investment programme for the social economy, in 2004. Managed by Communities Scotland, Futurebuilders provides capital and seedcorn funding to promote financial sustainability in social economy organisations. It is closely tied to the drive for better public services and closing the opportunity gap policy objectives. This section addresses the policy debate around Futurebuilders and social economy investment and growth in general.
Employment, Skills & Workforce Development
The voluntary sector plays a key role in the economic and social life of Scotland and makes a major contribution to employment and employability - employing almost 5% of the Scottish workforce. The sector has played a pioneering role in the development of Intermediate Labour Market initiatives, work-life balance, lifelong learning, and welfare to work programmes including New Deal. This section explores the policy issues around the challenges and opportunities for the voluntary sector in terms of developing its workforce for the future.
Procurement and Public Service Reform
This section explores issues including full cost recovery and the general debate on social economy access to public sector procurement.
